The Salalah Airport ( IATA : SLL, ICAO : OOSA) is the second largest airport in Oman after the airport Muscat . It is located about 5.5 km northeast of the city center of Salalah in the south of the country.

history

Salalah Airport opened in 1977. Initially, only domestic flights to Muscat and some charter flights were handled. In 2003 direct flights to Dubai were offered for the first time . Numerous charter planes from neighboring Gulf states and other countries land during the Charif . Regular service to India was started in April 2004 and is mainly used by the many guest workers . Since 2005, more and more European destinations have been flown to from Salala. Construction work on an expansion of the airport has been going on since 2014, the new terminal has already been completed and is in operation. In addition, a new tower and a new administration building for the airport operator OAMC (Oman Airport Management Company) have been built. The administration building houses the airport's IT department and various training rooms for the training of airport employees.

Destinations

The state-owned airline Oman Air operates several domestic flights a day from Salala to its hub in the capital Muscat and several times a week to Dubai and Kozhikode in India . The Omani low-cost airline Salam Air also flies several times a day to Muscat and several times a week to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia . From July 2019, the airlines will start a connection to Sohar in the north of the country and a connection to Abu Dhabi Airport . In the neighboring country of the United Arab Emirates , the airlines Fly Dubai fly daily to Dubai and Air Arabia flies once a day to its hub in Sharjah . Qatar Airways flies to the Qatari capital Doha twice a day . Air India Express serves Kochi and Kozhikode. Safe Air Company (SAC) flies to Djibouti irregularly . During the seasonal Khareef season, European charter and low-cost airlines, including Smartwings , Neos , Nordwind Airlines , Gulf Air and Etihad Airways, fly to the Omani coastal city.

Airport expansion

The new terminal has redesigned check-in counters, a new departure area with a duty free shop and airport lounge, and several rental car counters in the arrivals hall.
