Alfons "Fons" Bastijns (born January 28, 1947 in Meer , Antwerp Province , † November 15, 2008 in Bruges ) was a Belgian football player .

Bastijns started playing men's football at Racing White Brussels in 1965 , initially as a center forward , then from 1967 to 1980 for Club Bruges , where he was retrained as a right-back . With Bruges, he won five Belgian championship titles (1973, 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1980) and three national cups (1968, 1970 and 1977), played 502 competitive games and was the long-time team captain of the blue-blacks. He was also in two European Cup finals, both times under coach Ernst Happel : in the 1975/76 UEFA Cup (1: 1, 2: 3 against Liverpool ) and in the championship competition in 1977/78 (0: 1, again against Liverpool). His best-known teammates included Julien Cools , Roger Van Gool , René Vandereycken , Ulrik le Fevre , Georges Leekens and Jan Ceulemans .

He was used in the Belgian national team three times (1970 against France , 1973 against Norway and 1977 against the Netherlands ) . The competition in his position prevented more stakes, namely the “seeded” Eric Gerets .

He let his career end in France with the second division USL Dunkerque (1980–1982) and again in Belgium with KV Mechelen . In Mechelen he also worked briefly as a trainer ; In the second half of the 1980s he laced his soccer boots himself again, for the fourth division club FC Duffel . Fons Bastijns, who had suffered from a muscle disease for several years, died in November 2008 at the age of 61.
