Forever ( English for: " forever ") is the second studio album by the American rapper Puff Daddy . It was released on August 24, 1999 on the Bad Boy Records and Arista Records labels .

Sean Combs himself, who produced most of the songs, as well as the rapper The Notorious BIG , who was shot in 1997, acted as executive producers on the album . Other beats come from Mario Winans , Carlos Broady, Nashiem Myrick, D-Dot, Ron Lawrence, Zach White, Daven Vanderpool, J Dub, Harve Pierre and Dent. Almost every track on the album uses samples of various songs from different musical genres.

Cover design

The album cover is in black and white and shows Puff Daddy, who is dressed completely in white and is sitting on a white beanbag. No lettering can be seen.

Guest Posts

All of the songs on the album feature other artists besides Puff Daddy. The rapper Lil 'Kim has four guest posts and the rappers Redman and G-Dep are represented twice. Chart successes and singles

Forever entered the German charts at number 56 on August 30, 1999, and one week later reached the top position at number 4. In total, the album stayed in the German Top 100 for 30 weeks, including four weeks in the Top 10. In the USA, the album took second place and stayed in the Top 200 for 27 weeks.

Three songs from the album were released as singles . The second release Satisfy You , which is based on a sample of the song I Got 5 on It by The Luniz , was particularly successful and reached number 2 in Germany and the United States. Other singles were PE 2000 and Best Friend . The single Satisfy You received a gold record in Germany for more than 250,000 and in the USA for over 500,000 units each .

Sales figures and awards

Forever went platinum in the United States for more than one million copies sold in its year of publication . In the UK, the album went gold for over 100,000 sales.

Daniela Meixner from the website laut.de rated the album with two out of a possible five points. She writes that the rapper is "once again proving his ability as a master of all cover versions". However, the "productions are losing more and more innovation" and "still sound exactly like they did in the days of Notorious BIG", which is becoming "damn boring at this point in time".
