The Formula LO is a Swiss entry-level series of formula racing . The basis is a slightly modified Formula BMW vehicle. The racing series competes with the German ADAC Formula Masters .

History and name

The series completed its first season under the name Lista Formula A in 2000 , later it was renamed Lista Formula Masters - Austrian-Swiss junior championship . From 2006 to 2011 it was called LO formula lista junior . The name of the series comes from one of the main sponsors, namely Lista ( Li enhard Sta hlbau), a Swiss company to produce drawer cabinet systems: LO stands for L ista O ffice.

Regulations

In terms of sports law, Formula LO is a Swiss series that is also open to foreign drivers. Points are awarded per run according to the following scheme: 20-15-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1. There are two additional points per race (either two or three races are driven on a weekend) for pole position and the fastest race lap - the former only, however, if separate timed practice was carried out for the respective race. Drivers who have reached the age of 16 or who will do so in the course of the respective season may participate. The results of the drivers count towards the championship final classification. In addition, younger drivers who had only participated in a maximum of two races in the series prior to the season have the opportunity to collect 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 points for the LO Rookie Cup .

For the team classification, comparable to the constructors' championship in Formula 1 , points are awarded for the first eight places according to the scheme 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. The best placed driver of a team in the race is entitled to points.

Before the season starts, a sighting with evaluation is carried out; the possible prize money (8,000, 4,000, 3,500 CHF, etc.) is not paid out, but is considered a credit that can be redeemed when participating in the championship.

The LO BMW FB02 from the French chassis manufacturer Mygale has been prescribed as a standard vehicle since 2009 . Its minimum weight including the driver is 550 kg. The following tires are used:

  • Cooper / Avon Slick front: 180 / 550R-13 S8878 514, rear: 210 / 550R-13 S14311 514
  • Cooper / Avon rain front: 180 / 550R-13 W8662, rear: 210 / 550R-13 W14734

The 140 hp engines are sealed to keep costs down. A neutral control unit is provided by the series organization ("Club Formula A").

The manufacturer is required for shock absorbers ( SACHS ) and springs ( EIBACH ). The brake pad brand is not specified.

The exterior of the vehicles must stand out from the BMW colors blue / white. According to the regulations, they must "not even come close to the appearance of the official Formula BMW" .

Up to and including 2008, in addition to the FB02 , Formula Junior and BMW Formula ADAC vehicles were also permitted. Your minimum weight including the driver was 485 kg; so the "old" cars were not as hopeless as would have been expected with a unit weight. A separate trophy classification (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1) was set up for this group of cars. The tires for the "old" cars were:

  • Avon Slick front: 180/550 - 13 S 9903, rear: 210/550 - 13 S 13318
  • Avon rain front: 180/550 - 13 W 8654, rear: 210/550 - 13 W 12365

whereas the new FB02 drove with Michelin tires:

  • Michelin Slick front: 20/54 - 13 - S308, rear: 22/54 - 13 - S400
  • Michelin rain front: 20/54 - 13 - P304, rear: 22/54 - 13 - P400

In particular, the transmission parts were free for all participants. The engine control units were sealed. The vehicles of the BMW Formula ADAC had to be retrofitted with the rims of the Formula Junior. The previously different wings have also been adjusted.

All participating monoposti had the 1,171 cm³ BMW engine in common.
