history

The first human traces in the 5th century BC can be found on the northern edge of the Schwarzach between Schwarzenbruck and Burgthann. These are designated as a ground monument (D-5-6633-0045).

The first mention in a Nuremberg document in 1431 speaks only of the field name in connection with meadows below the Rummelsberg. The farm itself is only mentioned in 1497, but it was certainly long in existence then. The owners were the Mendel patrician family from Nuremberg, who made a name for themselves in 1388 with the so-called Twelve Brothers Foundation: They founded a retirement home for single craftsmen. And these home residents have been supported since 1537 by donations from the Fröschau, namely rye for bread, 30 cheese, four chickens in autumn and two hens for barrel night. The whole thing was produced on five fields and five meadows with about 5 hectares, plus 6 hectares of forest. The farmers themselves were families from the area, such as Lang, Braun, Brunner, Rupprecht, Mayer and, for three generations, the Ottendörfer (1721–1805).

Since 1560 the oldest maps give us an approximate impression of the appearance of the buildings and in 1599 we learn about plans for the new construction of the barn and the interior of the house. (See the map of Weigel in bavarikon ) The situation as a single farm on a busy road was difficult for the Fröschau farming family. The farmer's wife was afraid of robberies if her husband was further away in the field or at the market to sell wood. Therefore, in 1753 the owner of the farm applied for the establishment of a secondary apartment at the farm, which cost him 50 thalers for the further right to fire. The small half-timbered house on the street may have been built during this time, later day labor families lived there.

Fröschau had belonged to the land of the imperial city of Nuremberg for almost 300 years before it came under Prussian rule for ten years in 1796. When the Kingdom of Bavaria fell to the two houses in 1810, they were added to the newly founded municipality of Moosbach (until 1972). The farm itself came into the hands of the Rummelsberg farming family Link for around a century, until they sold it to the neighboring Diakoniewerk, the Rummelsberger Anstalten, in 1907 with 78 days of land.

The hamlet of Fröschau has been owned by the Rummelsberger Anstalten since 1907 . The old building is a listed building . On September 12, 1970, the hay caught fire in a barn, which led to a major fire and required extinguishing work for days afterwards.

With the community edict (1808) Fröschau belonged to the politically independent community Moosbach . On April 1, 1971, the place was reclassified to Schwarzenbruck as part of the Bavarian regional reform .

Worth seeing in nature

About 200 meters west of the hamlet are the two Fröschauer ponds and to the north of them is the Thanngraben , through which the Way of St. James leads.
