François Joseph Pierre Deniau

François Joseph Pierre Deniau (born October 3, 1936 in Neuilly-sur-Seine , † January 12, 2014 ) was a French clergyman and bishop of Nevers .

Life

François Deniau studied philosophy and theology at the Saint-Sulpice d ' Issy-les-Moulineaux seminary and was ordained a priest on June 29, 1961 . At the Angelicum in Rome he completed another degree in theology from 1961 to 1963.

From 1963 to 1972 he was student chaplain in Paris and director of the diocesan student house from 1974 to 1978. From 1971 to 1978 he was in charge of the formation of young priests in the diocese of Nanterre, and later for all of France. From 1972 to 1974 he was a professor at the Saint-Sulpice d'Issy-les Moulineaux seminary . From 1975 to 1985 he was in charge of training and further education for laypeople. From 1976 to 1985 he was college chaplain and from 1978 to 1985 pastor of Vanves. In 1984/85 he was chaplain of the national marriage preparation center. From 1990 to 1996 he was an advisor to the national committee for the permanent diaconate. In 1985 Deniau became Vicar General of Nanterre. He was pastor of Puteaux from 1997 to 1998.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Nevers on June 26, 1998 . The bishop of Nanterre , François Favreau , donated to him on 4 October 1998 in Nevers Cathedral the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Georges Gilson , Archbishop of Sens-Auxerre , and Pierre Plateau , Archbishop of Bourges .

From 2005 to 2006 he carried out a diocesan synod. In 2010 he published the text “toutes les raisons d'espérer en Nièvre”. In the French Bishops' Conference he was President of the Committee on Relations with Judaism (2000–2005) and a member of the Education Committee and Projects (2005–2011). He has been co-chair of the Ecumenical Biblical Research Association ('Association œcuménique pour la recherche biblique) since 2010.
