François de Vicq

François de Vicq (born August 9, 1646 in Amsterdam ; † September 22, 1707 ibid) was a Dutch patrician , administrator and politician.

François came from the De Vicq family and was the son of the patrician François de Vicq (1603–1678). After studying at the University of Leiden , he married Aletta Pancras in 1667 . In 1670 both were painted by Gerard ter Borch . In 1671 he was dikemaster and steward of the Watergraafsmeer . In 1673 De Vicq Schepen became the town and after his father's death he took over his seat in the Vroedschap . Between 1679 and 1707 he was councilor of Amsterdam. He has been the administrator and main intern of the Dutch West India Company since 1675. In 1687 he was one of the founders and first directors of the Suriname Society . In 1694 De Vicq was appointed Schout for the first time . During the riots of 1696, his town house in Gouden Boucht was guarded by soldiers. The following year he was elected mayor for the first time . De Vicqs further appointments fell in the years 1700 and 1706. Between the two years as mayor he was again in office as Schout. In 1698 and 1699 he was a deputy in the Raad van State . In the year of his death he held the offices of Hoofdingeland (highest level of dike management ) and treasurer of the city of Amsterdam.
