Francis Bazire

Francis Bazire (born April 17, 1939 in Escalles-Alix ) is a former French cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Bazire, who already competed successfully in road races as a junior , won the 1962 French championship in road racing for amateurs and in team time trial . In August of that year he started for the French national team at the UCI Road World Championships and finished 5th there. In 1963 he also won the road race at the Mediterranean Games ; both in the national championship and in the world championship he finished second (at the World Cup behind the Italian Flaviano Vicentini ). In 1964 he continued the series of front placements at the World Championships and finished fourth. He started for France at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo , where he was classified as 53rd. After the games he became a professional driver in the Peugeot-BP team , where he drove alongside Tom Simpson .
