Francis Leo Braganza

Francis Leo Braganza SJ (born January 29, 1922 in Bombay , † December 21, 2011 in Ahmedabad ) was an Indian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Baroda .

Life

Francis Leo Braganza joined the religious order of the Jesuits in Shembaganur on May 28, 1938 and was ordained a priest on November 21, 1951 . From 1956 to 1961 he was a professor at the Seminary of St. Xavier in Ahmedabad. 1961/62 he was rector of Rosary, Baroda. Braganza was vice provincial of his order in Gujarat (1963–1968) and assistant to the administration (1967–1970). From 1970 to 1980 he was rector of the St. Xavier Seminary in Ahmedabad.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Baroda on April 27, 1987 . The Archbishop of Bombay Simon Ignatius Pimenta consecrated him on June 29 of the same year as bishop ; Co- consecrators were Charles Gomes SJ, Bishop of Ahmedabad , and Gregory Karotemprel CMI , Bishop of Rajkot .

On August 29, 1997, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
