Francisco Enage

Francisco Abella Enage (born October 4, 1878 in Tacloban City , Leyte , † after 1935 ) was a Filipino politician .

biography

During the Philippine Revolution from 1896 to 1898 and the Spanish-American War , he was a lieutenant in the Philippine Revolutionary Army and was wounded in combat with the US Army in 1900. He then studied law and then worked as a lawyer .

A short time later he began his political career during the early phase of the US colonial administration with the election to the council of Tacloban. In 1908 he was initially Sheriff of Leyte. Later he was governor of the province of Leyte, before from 1912 to 1916 a member of the Philippine Assembly ( Philippine Assembly was) and there the interests of the 4th electoral district represented by Leyte. Then he was the Register of Deeds in Iloilo .

In 1919 he became a member of the Senate and represented the then 9th Senate electoral district, which included the provinces of Leyte and Samar , until 1925 . During this time he was also the Majority Floor Leader leader of the majority parliamentary group in the Senate.

After leaving the Senate, he initially worked as a public prosecutor ( Fiscal ) for the province of Iloilo and later as executive secretary and judge at the Court of First Instance in Tayabas .

After the creation of the Commonwealth of the Philippines , he ran on September 17, 1935 in the elections to the Philippine National Assembly and was elected as a representative for the 4th constituency of Leyte. However, he resigned his mandate shortly afterwards in order to avoid a runoff election for the office of speaker of the National Assembly for which he also ran.

After resigning from his parliamentary mandate, he instead became technical advisor to the first President of the Philippines, Manuel Quezon, in his office in the Malacañang Palace .
