Tomas "Sultang Demasang kay-ko-Ranao" Lluisima Cabili (born March 7, 1903 in Iligan City , Lanao del Norte , † March 17, 1957 at Mount Manunggal , Cebu Province ( plane crash )) was a Filipino politician .

biography

After attending the Iligan Primary School from 1911 to 1915 and the Iligan Elementary School from 1915 to 1918, he attended the Zamboanga Provincial High School (1919 to 1920), the Cebu High School (1920 to 1921), the Silliman Institute (1921 to 1921) 1922) and the Cebu Provincial High School (1922 to 1923) four different secondary schools . He then studied at the University of the Philippines in Cebu and graduated in 1925 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). He then completed postgraduate studies in law at the Visayan Institute in Cebu from 1925 to 1927 , before completing his studies with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) at the Philippine College of Law in 1929 . After being admitted to the bar, he began working as a lawyer in Lanao del Norte.

He also worked as a journalist and initially a reporter for The Advertiser , before he was a reporter for The Freeman of Cebu in 1924 and 1926 . Finally, he was a correspondent for the National News Service from 1930 to 1932 and for the DMIM and The Graphic newspapers from 1933 to 1935 .

In 1934 he was appointed justice of the peace for the parishes of Lanao and Dansalan .

In 1935 he was elected a member of the Constituent Assembly ( Constitutional Assembly ) and represented the interests of Lanao del Norte. In the congregation he served on the Agriculture, Law, Franchising , Local and Provincial Government, Filipino National Language , Public Education, Mindanao and Special Provinces, Funding, Community Service, and Public Property Committees. After all, he was the only member of the Constitutional Convention who did not sign the Constitution of the Commonwealth of the Philippines , which was formally ratified on February 8, 1935.

Cabili was re-elected to the Second National Assembly in 1938 and was not only chairman of the Privilege Committee, but also a member of the Agriculture, Funding, Forestry, Mindanao and Special Provinces, and National Corporations Committees.

Between February 27 and July 11, 1945 he was Minister of Defense in the government of President Sergio Osmeña .

In 1946 Tomas Cabili became a member of the Senate and was a member of it until November 1955. During this time he was also from 1950 to 1953 Majority Floor Leader and thus leader of the government majority in the Senate.

Cabili died with President Ramon Magsaysay and 23 other people in a plane crash on Mount Manunggal in Cebu Province.

Barangay Tomas Cabili has been named after him in his hometown of Iligan City since March 16, 1982. The Tomas Cabili National High School in Iligan City is also named.
