Frank Dietrich Nopper (* 25. May 1961 in Stuttgart ) is a German local politician of the CDU . He is Lord Mayor of the large district town of Backnang . On November 29, 2020 he was elected Lord Mayor of Stuttgart.

family

Frank Nopper comes from a Stuttgart family. In 1816 his ancestor Johann Friedrich Nopper founded the iron shop Friedrich Nopper in the stud house next to the Stuttgart collegiate church, which in 1900 merged with the Zahn & Compagnie to form Zahn-Nopper. The company existed until 1988; A street and a bus stop on the 99 bus line in Zuffenhausen (“Zahn-Nopper-Straße”) are named after her to this day. Lord Mayor of Backnang

Frank Nopper was elected Lord Mayor of the large district town of Backnang in 2002. In the second ballot he prevailed against the previous incumbent Jürgen-Heinrich Schmidt ( SPD ) with 45% of the vote. In 2010, Nopper was re-elected for a second term with 86.8% of the vote and a voter turnout of 36.8% and in 2018 with 87.1% of the vote and a voter turnout of 37.6% for a third term.

Election to the Lord Mayor of Stuttgart

In February 2020, the CDU district executive in Stuttgart decided on Nopper as a candidate for the mayoral election in Stuttgart .

In the first ballot on November 8, 2020, he achieved the best result of all candidates with 31.8 percent of the votes. In the second ballot on November 29, 2020, he was elected as the new Lord Mayor of Stuttgart with 42.3 percent as the successor to Fritz Kuhn, who is no longer in office . His strongest challenger Marian Schreier came in at 36.9 percent. He is scheduled to take office on January 7, 2021.

Corona crisis

In June 2020 it was reported that Frank Nopper had not adhered to the Corona distance rules on a Neckar boat trip. Nopper rejected the allegation. On July 13, 2020, it became known that the public order office of the city of Stuttgart had banned shipping. Nopper was fined 100 euros.
