Franz Arnold (born August 21, 1897 in Flüelen , † December 26, 1984 in Altdorf , Catholic , entitled to live in Flüelen) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

Franz Arnold was born on August 21, 1897 in Flüelen as the son of the co-founder and owner of sand and gravel companies on Lake Uri and Lake Geneva, Johann Arnold. After graduating from secondary school at the Sarnen College , Franz Arnold took on the management of Arnold + Aschwanden.Cie. From 1922 . on Lake Uri and Lake Geneva, which under his leadership experienced a great boom.

Franz Arnold was married to Lina, the daughter of the farmer and shoemaker Alois Thomas Beeler.

As a member of the Liberal Democratic Party, Franz Arnold initially served at the municipal level between 1928 and 1932 as mayor of Flüelen. As a result, he was in the government council of Uri , of which he was a member from 1936 to 1958, first of the police and medical directorate, from 1940 the building directorate. To this end, he acted as Landammann between 1944 and 1946 and 1948 and 1950 . In addition, Franz Arnold represented his canton in the National Council from 1947 to 1963 .

Franz Arnold was particularly committed to the economic development and public finances of Uri, which he saw in close connection with road policy. During his reign as building director, Sustenstrasse was opened to traffic and Gotthardstrasse was expanded.

He died on December 26, 1984, four months after he had reached the age of 87 in Altdorf.
