Franz Doppler
Albert Franz Doppler , Albert Ferenc Doppler , (born October 16, 1821 in Lemberg , Galicia , † July 27, 1883 in Baden near Vienna ) was an Austro-Hungarian composer and flautist.
Life
From 1828 to 1831 Franz Doppler (like his brother Karl Doppler ) was tutored by his father. He was a composer, worked as an oboist at the Warsaw Opera and gave his sons a solid musical foundation. Franz Doppler made his debut in Vienna at the age of thirteen before performing as a duo with his brother Karl. In 1838 Franz Doppler became first flautist at the German Theater in Pest , and three years later at the Nemzeti Színház ( National Theater ) in Budapest . During this time he made his debut as a composer with several operas and thus, together with Ferenc Erkel, became the “midwife” of Hungarian national music. Together with his brother Karl and colleague Erkel, he was also one of the founders of the first Hungarian symphony orchestra in 1853.
Afterwards Franz Doppler went on concert tours again with his brother. They performed a. a. in Brussels and Weimar, where they met Franz Liszt , and performed in London in 1856 with Karl Hubay, father of the famous violinist Jenő Hubay . Both Franz Doppler and his brother Karl remained supporters of the French flute flute and the Tulou system .
In 1858 Franz Doppler became first flutist and conductor at the Vienna Court Opera , later also chief conductor, but always remained loyal to the flute.
From 1864 to 1867 Franz Doppler was professor of flute at the Conservatory of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna . He composed one German and several Hungarian operas , ballets , flute concertos and arrangements of Hungarian tunes. As a flute virtuoso, he undertook further concert tours throughout Europe with his brother Karl and enjoyed great success.
In the first days of June 1883 Doppler, Kapellmeister at the Vienna Court Opera , arrived as a spa guest in Baden near Vienna, where he passed away seven weeks later.
His niece was the theater actress Olga Doppler-Alsen , his nephew the composer Árpád Doppler .
