Franz Ferdinand is the debut album of the Scottish rock band Franz Ferdinand and was released on February 9, 2004 on the Domino Records label . Five tracks from the album were released as singles, three of which made it into the top ten of the UK singles chart, namely The Dark of the Matinée , This Fire and Take Me Out . It was produced by Tore Johansson and Franz Ferdinand themselves.

The album was generally received very positively by the critics and can be found in many favorites lists today. Rolling Stone magazine selected Franz Ferdinand at number 71 of the 100 best albums of the 2000s and at number 49 of the 100 best debut albums. The magazine put the song Take Me Out at number 327 of the 500 best songs of all time . Pitchfork Media ranks the album 101st out of the 200 best albums of the decade. In the selection of the 500 best albums of all time by the New Musical Express, it ranks 192. In 2005, Visions magazine placed the album at 25th of its 150 albums for the ages . Franz Ferdinand was included in the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die .
