Franz Hantschel (born October 4, 1844 in Kottowitz , Austrian Empire , now the Czech Republic ; † February 23, 1940 in Vienna ) was a German-Bohemian doctor and local researcher.

Life

Franz Hantschel studied at the Josefs Academy in Vienna, became a doctor of medicine in 1870 and then senior physician at the garrison hospital in Lemberg , Stockerau and Vienna. From 1874 he worked as a regimental doctor in Znojmo , later in Brno and as chief doctor in the Bosnian campaigns.

From 1879 he practiced as a doctor in Česká Lípa , devoted himself to local history and became a writer and author of local history publications. He was the leading representative of the "North Bohemian Excursion Club" and also edited its journal Mitteilungen des Nordböhmischer Excursion Club .

Even after moving, first to Prague - Smíchov , then to Linz , he and his childhood friend, the pedagogue and local researcher Anton Amand Paudler (1844–1905), religious, teacher and co-founder of the North Bohemian excursion club, continued to study local history and stayed in contact with his region of origin. The local history museum in Česká Lípa keeps the memory of the research results of the two local historians alive. Numerous items from the collection are still accessible today.
