Franz Körte

Heinrich Friedrich Franz Körte , also Koerte , (born March 17, 1782 in Aschersleben , † January 30, 1845 in Lüdersdorf near Wriezen an der Oder ) was a German natural and agricultural scientist. For thirty years he worked at the Agricultural Academy in Möglin founded by Albrecht Daniel Thaer . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Körte ".

Franz Körte was the son of a Protestant preacher, his brother Wilhelm Körte (1776–1846) was a literary historian and estate administrator of Johann Wilhelm Ludwig Gleims .

Körte initially worked as a trainee and civil servant on farms. From 1803 to 1804 he studied natural sciences, especially botany and chemistry at the University of Halle (Saale) . He then returned to agricultural practice for two years. In 1806 he turned back to scientific studies. He dealt extensively with the flora of southern Germany and completed his habilitation in 1811 at the University of Erlangen . In the same year he went to the University of Würzburg as a lecturer . From here Albrecht Daniel Thaer brought him to his Agricultural Academy in Möglin as a lecturer in natural sciences . In 1815, Körte received the title of "Royal Prussian Professor". In the same year he married Thaer's daughter Caroline, the widow of Georg Ernst Wilhelm Crome .

Körte was a man with excellent educational and organizational skills. In 1818 Thaer gave him the management of the Mögliner teaching institute, which in 1819 received the right from the Prussian state administration to call itself the “Royal Prussian Academy of Agriculture”. In 1825, Körte took over the editing of the magazine "Möglinsche Annalen der Landwirthschaft". In 1830 he handed the management over to his brother-in-law Albrecht Philipp Thaer . In the same year he took over the management of the Lüdersdorf estate. However, he continued teaching at the Mögliner Academy.

From 1836 to 1842, Körte published a new journal as the successor to the Möglin 's Annalen , for which he chose the title Möglin' ​​s Yearbooks . A total of five volumes of the yearbooks published in casual succession appeared. Körte was an honorary member of several agricultural associations. The Prussian king awarded him the "Red Eagle Order IV Class" .
