Franz Karl von Auersperg

Franz Karl Prince of Auersperg (born November 22, 1660 in Vienna ; † November 6, 1713 in Gschwendt ) was the 3rd Prince of Auersperg as well as Duke of Münsterberg and Imperial General from 1705 .

Life

His parents were Johann Weikhard von Auersperg , Duke of Münsterberg, and Maria Katharina Countess von Losenstein (1635–1691). His brother Johann Ferdinand von Auersperg was the 2nd Prince of Auersperg.

Franz Karl von Auersperg became a captain in the Imperial Army at the age of 20 . After the end of the Second Turkish Siege of Vienna in 1683, he brought the news of the relief of the capital to Emperor Leopold I. He later became a treasurer , colonel of the imperial army, governor of Karlovac and general field master .

During the siege of Bihać he caused the unsuccessful withdrawal of troops by Prince Eugene through disputes over rank with Batthyány . He caused another failure by disregarding Eugen's orders during the campaign in Italy in the battle of Luzzara in 1702. In 1705 he succeeded his brother Johann Ferdinand as Duke of Münsterberg, and a year later he represented the emperor at the Silesian Prince’s Congress .

Marriage and offspring

Franz Karl Auersperg married Maria Theresa Countess von Rappach (1660–1741) in 1685. The marriage had six children:

  • Maria Franziska von Auersperg (1691–1725), married to Johann Joseph Graf von Breuner

  • Heinrich Josef von Auersperg (1697–1783), 4th Prince of Auersperg
