Franz Oexle

Franz Oexle (born December 10, 1922 in Überlingen ; † March 25, 2018 in Gottlieben , Thurgau , Switzerland ) was a German journalist and editor-in-chief of Südkurier .

Life

Franz Oexle grew up in Überlingen on Lake Constance. His ancestors came from the Großer Heuberg on the Swabian Alb and from Kreenheinstetten near Sigmaringen . One of his ancestors was the religious and well-known Baroque writer Abraham a Sancta Clara (Johann Ulrich Megerle).

As a soldier in World War II , Oexle was in Russia and France. After the end of the war, he studied German, philosophy, English and history in Freiburg im Breisgau , Tübingen and Basel from 1945 to 1951 . It was in 1950 at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg in Freiburg with a thesis Wieland's encounter with the Sturm und Drang to Dr. phil. PhD. In 1953/54 he was a postdoc at the University of Oregon . From 1964 he was a lecturer at the International Institute for Journalism in Developing Countries with a focus on East Asia.

Oexle joined the Konstanz daily newspaper Südkurier in 1951 and was a political editor and later head of the service. In 1966, Oexle took over the post of editor-in-chief of the Südkurier, succeeding Alfred Gerigk . In 1987 he retired and handed over to his successor Gerd Appenzeller . From 1988 to 1992 he was co-editor of the Südkurier.

In 1988 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
