Franz von Veltheim

Franz Wilhelm Werner von Veltheim (born November 10, 1785 in Rothenburg (Saale) , † December 31, 1839 on Schönfließ (Oberhavel) ) was a German geologist and mining captain in the Kingdom of Prussia .

Life

Veltheim's father was the miner Carl Christian Septimus von Veltheim (1751–1796).

Veltheim married Countess Marianne von Veltheim on February 26, 1812 at Destedt Castle (* February 26, 1794 in Braunschweig; † May 10, 1844 at Gut Schönfließ), the daughter of Count August Ferdinand von Veltheim on Harbke and Ottonie von Arnim . His eldest son was Werner von Veltheim , captain of the Königs Wusterhausen castle .

Veltheim was a landlord on Ostrau (Petersberg) , Kösseln and Groß-Wartenberg ( Anhalt ). In 1833 he was a member of the provincial parliament of the province of Saxony for the status of knighthood in the Wittenbergsch constituency .

He was a member of the Natural Research Society (Halle) . From 1824 to 1839 he was President of the Thuringian-Saxon History Association .

As director of the Eisleben Mining Authority , during the wars of liberation against Napoleon Bonaparte, he called for the formation of a battalion of volunteer miners and smelters in the Mansfelder Land , which was founded on December 25, 1813 as a pioneer unit . With this he went down in Prussian military history .
