Ostrau, which lies on the Riede brook , was first mentioned in 1125 when Conradus M. Graf zu Wettin , later Margrave of Meißen , gave the Capellam Ostrowe to the monastery on the Petersberg . The de Ostrowe ministerial family resided in Ostrau until the beginning of the 15th century, followed by the lords of Witzleben from around 1440 , Friedrich von Hoym in 1455 , Herlfrecht von Meckau in 1471 and, from 1586, Achatius von Veltheim , who took over the Ostrau Castle on 1 February 1586 was enfeoffed by Elector August of Saxony . The noble families Knauth , von Scheidingen (1419) and von Draxdorf also owned goods in the village . In 1713, Ostrau Castle was rebuilt in the baroque style.

Ostrau belonged to the patrimonial jurisdiction of the Ostrau manor until 1815 , which from 1485 was under the administration of the Wettin office of Delitzsch , but was spatially separated from it. As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the places of the manor district of Ostrau, like most of the places of the Saxon Delitzsch office, became part of Prussia in 1815. Ostrava was in 1816 the district Bitterfeld in the administrative district of Merseburg of Saxony Province allocated.

On July 1, 1950 Werderthau was incorporated into Ostrau. At the same time, both places moved to the Saalkreis . During the district reform in the GDR in 1952, Ostrau became part of the smaller Saalkreis in the Halle district , which was incorporated into the Saalekreis during the district reform of the state of Saxony-Anhalt in 2007. On January 1, 2005 Mösthinsdorf was incorporated into Ostrau. Until the formation of the unified community Petersberg on 1 January 2010. Ostrava was an independent municipality in the Götschetal-Petersberg with the associated districts Werderthau and Mösthinsdorf. The last mayor of Ostrau was Lieselotte Berner. Since then, the three places have formed the village of Ostrava within the Petersberg community.

Attractions

Castle Church

In the north of the village stands the baroque Ostrau Castle , which was built by Louis Remy de la Fosse for the von Veltheim family, who lived in Ostrau until 1945. The last owner of the castle was the Indologist, anthropologist and world traveler Hans-Hasso von Veltheim († 1956). Today the castle is primarily used as a primary school and apartment building.

In and around the castle there are also annual community festivals, one of the most important and probably the most important in the community of Ostrau is the castle and park festival. One of the few large collections of the winterling is located in the palace garden. For this reason, a park festival takes place when the winterlings are in bloom . The baroque castle church was consecrated in 1703 and is now used by the parish for church services and concerts.
