geography
The town of Drehlitz is about 14 kilometers north of Halle (Saale) on the 250 m high Petersberg, northeast of the town of Petersberg.
history
Drehlitz belonged as schriftsässiger place to manor Ostrava , which from 1485 under the administration of wettinischen Office Delitzsch stood, was physically separated from the latter.
Since the sale of the neighboring Wettin office of Petersberg to Brandenburg-Prussia in 1697, Drehlitz in Electoral Saxony was on the border with the Prussian Duchy of Magdeburg . Drehlitz, however, continued to pay interest to the now Prussian office of Petersberg. The place also belonged to the parish Petersberg ecclesiastically . In 1806, Petersberg and the Prussian Saalkreis were occupied by French troops. As a result, the now royal Saxon Drehlitz bordered from 1807 on the Halle district in the Saale department of the Kingdom of Westphalia .
After the defeat of Napoleon and the end of the Kingdom of Westphalia, Drehlitz was again a Saxon-Prussian border town in 1813. As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the places of the manor district of Ostrau, like most of the places of the Saxon Delitzsch office, became part of Prussia in 1815. Drehlitz, like most of the manor district of Ostrau, was assigned to the district of Bitterfeld in the administrative district of Merseburg in the province of Saxony in 1816.
On July 1, 1950, Drehlitz moved to the Saalkreis and was incorporated into Petersberg at the same time. During the district reform in the GDR in 1952, Drehlitz came as a district of the Petersberg community to the smaller Saalkreis in the Halle district , which was added to the Saalekreis during the district reform of the state of Saxony-Anhalt in 2007. When the unified community Petersberg was formed on January 1, 2010, the small community Petersberg with its two districts Frößnitz and Drehlitz became a locality within the new large community.
