Franzheim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franzheim is a deserted area in the municipality of Oberding in the district of Erding on the grounds of Munich Airport .

history

Franzheim emerged at the beginning of the 19th century as a large scattered settlement or hamlet in Erdinger Moos , northeast of Munich , which was drained in sections at that time. The place was in the municipality of Oberding and comprised only a few properties.

In 1922, the residents bought a school by expanding a barrack . Franzheim grew continuously, so that on April 14, 1926 the government of Upper Bavaria built the corridors of Mariabrunn and Franzheim and officially named the settlement "Franzheim". Between 1940 and 1942, the Franzheim property was connected to the electrical power supply.

After the Second World War , Franzheim grew rapidly. On May 17, 1957, the foundation stone for the Catholic branch church of St. Rasso was laid. On September 1, 1957, the Munich auxiliary bishop Johannes Neuhäusler carried out the consecration . The church was again largely built by the local residents themselves. In 1958 the old school was replaced by a new building and a teacher's house was added.

After the Bavarian state government decided in a cabinet decision on August 5, 1969 for the Erdinger Moos location for the new Munich airport, Munich II , the abandonment of the location became necessary, as a good part of the southern runway was to be built on its corridor . Flughafen München GmbH bought the land and around 400 people were relocated. The last mass in the Church of St. Rasso was celebrated on July 31, 1977. Then it was profaned and demolished with the place. When construction of the airport began on November 3, 1980, only around a dozen people were still living in Franzheim.

Population development:

  • 1950 census: 253 inhabitants
  • 1961 census: 261 inhabitants
  • May 27, 1970: 282 inhabitants

After the southern runway was built in the local area, there are no more remains.

In the former, northern neighboring municipality of Attaching (today a part of Freising ) there is still a "Franzheimer Straße" that runs south from the town center.

The property at Eger-Straße 17 , immediately south of the southern observation hill at Munich Airport , is still marked as Franzheim on official maps. The Tierhotel Munich Airport is registered at this address . 300 meters south of this is the property at Eger-Straße 15, which is possibly also referred to by this place name.

Viewing hill

In memory of the place, the southern observation hill at Munich Airport bears the name "Franzheim".
