Franziska Steiof

Ulrike Franziska Steiof (born October 24, 1962 in Offenbach ; † January 23, 2014 in Kiel ) was a German theater director and author who was particularly active in the field of children's and youth theater .

Life

Ulrike Franziska Steiof first studied law and education, later she completed a degree in theater education with Peter Jochimsen . After receiving her diploma, she began her theater career in 1989 as Norbert Aust's assistant director at the Theater im Werftpark in Kiel. In the 1993/94 season she staged the play Sturmhöhe or The Nights of the Bronté Sisters as a second independent directorial work , which was also shown at festivals in Berlin, Vienna and Zurich. This was followed by directorial work at the Schauspiel Hannover , Schauspielhaus Kiel, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus , Theater im Zentrum Wien and Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg .

From 2000 Steiof regularly directed at the Berlin Grips Theater . Her greatest successes included youth plays such as the musical Baden gehn and the Rosa Luxemburg biography Rosa , which she wrote together with Volker Ludwig , as well as Nelly Goodbye and So lonely , which were awarded the Ikarus Theater Prize in 2006 and 2011 respectively. Steiof's productions of Norway.today and Baden go at the Grips-Theater were each nominated for the Friedrich-Luft-Prize .

In 2001 Steiof staged her play Noah and the Great Rain at the Theater im Werftpark , which has since been performed in numerous other children's theaters.

Together with former actors from the Werftpark Theater, she founded the DeichArt theater group, which operates in Kiel's independent scene, in 2003 . One of the group's most famous works is the musical piece Schwitzende Männer im Schuhladen .

Steiof's play Undine, the little mermaid , which premiered in 2010 at the Junge Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf, was nominated for the German Children's Theater Prize and the Mülheim Children's Play Prize in the same year .

Most recently, Steiof staged Die Regentrude based on the fairy tale of the same name by Theodor Storm at the Werftpark Theater in November 2013 .

In addition to her work as a theater director and author, Steiof also worked as a personnel and management trainer for companies.

On January 23, 2014, Steiof committed suicide. The ongoing rehearsals of their new play Worms at the Junge Schauspielhaus Hamburg, whose premiere was planned for February 22nd, were then canceled.

Franziska Steiof was buried on February 7, 2014 in Kiel.
