The Franziskuskirche , also called St. Franziskus Church , is located in the Swiss municipality of Riehen at Äusseren Baselstrasse 170. It was built in 1950 by the Zurich architect Fritz Metzger and is one of the cultural assets of Riehens .

construction

In keeping with the spirit of the Second Vatican Council, the oval choir and the trapezoidal nave , which rises towards the rear, bring the faithful close to the altar. In 1989, the interior was designed by the Ticino artist Pierre Casè in line with the creation spirituality of St. Francis . The colored ribbons on the walls are reminiscent of autumn leaves, the summer sky, the snow and the setting sun and refer to the song of the sun by St. Francis . The dissolved crosses, designed in “arte povera”, are intended to show that God is there in all suffering. The altar and ambo are made of maggia granite, concrete and brass.

The associated St. Franziskus parish home is located at Äusseren Baselstrasse 168 in Riehen. The parish home was completely renovated in 2014.
