Catholic Apostolic Chapel (Basel)
The chapel of the Catholic Apostolic Congregation is a chapel in the Swiss city of Basel . It is located in the Am Ring district in the middle of a square formed by the churches of Pauluskirche , Marienkirche , Chiesa di San Pio X and Église du Sacré-Cœur .
The chapel was built in 1863 by the Basel builder Theodor Ecklin in a largely undeveloped area at the time and is now owned by a foundation . The prayer room , which makes up the largest part of the building, is striking .
In April 2008 the government council of Basel decided to include it in the cantonal monument protection register due to the art-historical, architectural and cultural-historical value of the building; According to the government, the prayer hall is one of the city's most important architectural monuments. The owning foundation lodged an objection to the cantonal appellate court and, after a negative decision, to the federal court , but was ultimately dismissed in February 2009 .
