geography

course

The Franzosengraben rises at about 215  m above sea level. NHN in the flat floodplain west of the city wall of Mainbernheim, through which the B 8 and the Sickersbach also pass. Along the paths, the stream initially runs through loosened buildings, later through open, agricultural corridors mainly to the northwest.

The mouth of the Franzosengraben between the church and the vineyard

After about 1 km, the 1.6 km long Zeiselgraben flows from the right , north of Mainbernheim at 247  m above sea level. NHN arises; this runs accompanied by dirt roads in a little deepened, natural hollow and drains the surrounding arable land. Initially it moves briefly to the northwest, but then for the most part in a south-westerly direction.

After this tributary, the Franzosengraben runs slightly westwards, partly almost invisible or piped through open landscape. After moving to the city of Kitzingen, the environment changes: the valley cuts more strongly into the landscape, with vineyards to the north and the Sickershausen district to the south. Due to the terrain of bushes and trees, the Franzosengraben in the narrowing valley is getting closer and closer to the Sickersbach, which it is at about 198  m above sea level. NHN flows in north-east of the center of Sickershausen in the area of a former mill from the right.

The Franzosengraben has an absolute gradient of about 17 meters over a length of 2.7 km and thus a mean bottom gradient of about 6 ‰.

Catchment area

It covers about 2.5 km² and is located in the Mainbernheim Plain , a sub-area of the Kitzinger Main Plain in front of the western Steigerwald in the sub-area of the Steigerwald foreland of the Mainfränkische Platten natural area . The highest point in the catchment area is east of the Zeiselgraben and is 316  m above sea level. NHN .

Geologically, the catchment area is in the Unterkeuper .
