The Freiberger Straße is a city road in the Wilsdruffer suburb in Dresden . It begins at Postplatz as one of the continuations of Wilsdruffer Straße and leads to Löbtau , where it turns into Kesselsdorfer Straße . It runs between the inner old town and the World Trade Center Dresden within the 26er Ring . In this area are the star houses No. 5–27, the five high-rise buildings No. 2–10, the cafeteria of the SC Einheit Dresden and the Elsa Fenske nursing home.

history

Freiberger Strasse ended in 1898 at Freiberger Platz

Freiberger Strasse was part of an important trade route to southern Germany, which led to Nuremberg and began at the Wilischer Tor of the Dresden city fortress . The villages of Fischersdorf and Entenpfütze developed in the area between Postplatz and 26er Ring . While the Fischhofplatz, which emerged from the former, was completely built over after 1945 as a result of the air raids on Dresden and disappeared from the cityscape, the village square of the duck puddle still exists under the name Freiberger Platz. This is where Freiberger Strasse ended - until after 1945, traffic was led across the square to the Annenkirche and reached the old town via Annenstrasse. In the direction of the then outer city limits, Freiberger Strasse also linked the Albertbahnhof to the city.

The severe destruction in the Wilsdruffer suburb favored a complete redesign of the district. Freiberger Straße was extended from Freiberger Platz to Postplatz and thus connected directly to the city center. In place of the old village of Duck Puddle, the swimming and diving halls were built on Freiberger Platz .

traffic

With the expansion of the S-Bahn -distance Meissen - Dresden - Pirna was breakpoint Freiberger road built and released on 12 December 2004 to traffic. The tram lines  7 ( Pennrich  - Weixdorf ), 10 ( Striesen  - Messe Dresden ) and 12 (Striesen - Leutewitz ) of the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe go to the stops in front of the World Trade Center Dresden .

Development

North side

The five high-rise buildings at Freiberger Strasse 2–10 form the northern development of Freiberger Strasse. Houses 2–10 and were built between 1962 and 1964 by the architects Helmut Hommel , Kurt Röthig (Städtebau), based on designs by the architects Heinrich Rettig , Manfred Gruber and Rolf Ermisch with 40 apartments. The terrace level is equipped with studios. The complex was built using large-plate construction. In the middle there are three balconies that are placed next to each other and form “ loggias ”. This creates a "vertical facade design". The building is clad with Meissen ceramic tiles. In the 1970s, the advertisement “Dresden greets its guests” was placed on the skyscrapers, alternately flashing colored neon flowers.

The listed building of the Elsa Fenske old people's and nursing home can also be seen on the north side of Freiberger Straße 18 . Diagonally opposite the hospital, the Ehrlich Foundation was built in 1743 under the merchant and councilor Johann Georg Ehrlich, a school for the poor for 100 children.

The so-called constellation houses are located at Freiberger Straße 5–27 . The 240-meter-long, uniform building forms the southern development of Freiberger Straße and was built from 1966 to 1967 according to designs by the architect Siegmar Schreiber , Ursula Stark and Kollektiv with 228 rental apartments. The emphasis on different areas of the living area is remarkable. The section at the end of the building has an “open gable”. "Strong and vertical facade structures through projections and recesses in the axis system" structure the line. The outer wall panels show a pebble surface, the rear and gable sides show a "loggia arrangement". In 2003 the five-storey residential complex on the south side of Freiberger Strasse was rebuilt by the architects Köhler + Dura . The client was Wohnbau Nordwest, Dresden . The small-scale residential structure with 228 residential units was broken up. A large room with work and sleeping area was created from two half rooms. These have been expanded to the west, giving them more space and light. It is a “disciplined and cautious transformation that does justice to the aesthetic and functional needs of the present”. The inscription “Sternbildhäuser Freiberger Straße 5–27” can be read on the facade.

As a former "urban development completion of the south side of Freiberger Straße" is the former cafeteria SC Einheit Dresden , today the building of the university sports club TU Dresden eV, on Freiberger Straße 35. The building complex consists of a two-story low-rise building (former cafeteria) and a six-story building ( Boarding school)

The World Trade Center Dresden is located on Freiberger Strasse at the corner of Ammonstrasse and was built by the architects Nietz Prasch & Siegl from 1993 to 1996.
