Free Throw or Hoosiers is a 1986 film based on a true story from 1954. Barbara Hershey and Dennis Hopper played the leading roles alongside Gene Hackman and was directed by David Anspaugh .

1951 gets the headstrong and often offensive trainer Norman Dale (Gene Hackman) one last chance to prove himself; he is supposed to coach the basketball team at a high school in a provincial American town called Hickory, Indiana . Despite difficult circumstances, a lot of criticism and rejection, he tries to lead the team to success. With a lot of patience, perseverance, passion, hard training and a talented team, known as Hoosiers , the dream of everyone involved is gradually being fulfilled. The team made history by winning the state championship.
