The Fresquel is a river in France that runs predominantly in the Aude department in the Occitania region and also draws a small loop in its upper reaches into the neighboring Haute-Garonne department . It rises in the municipality of Baraigne , initially drains in a north-westerly direction, reaches the apex of the Canal du Midi at the Col de Naurouze, passes under it , turns to the south-east and follows the canal at different distances. After 63 kilometers, the Fresquel flows into the Aude as a left tributary on the north-eastern outskirts of Carcassonne after crossing under the Canal du Midi again .
