Attractions

The Pennautier Castle, with its Versailles-based architecture, is unique in the south of France - it is also known as the “Versailles des Languedoc” because, in addition to its architect Le Vau, the garden architect Le Nôtre was also involved in the planning. The approximately 60-meter-long and 2½-storey core building is accompanied by two almost 20-meter-long side pavilions, resulting in a total length of approximately 100 meters. While only rectangular windows can be seen in the middle section, the windows in the pavilions are arched. With the exception of the gray natural stone parts, the building is made entirely of bricks , which were then plastered. The castle has been recognized as a monument historique since 1972 . In 1989 the historic furniture was also placed under protection. The building complex is privately owned and is now used as a winery and hotel.
