Villarzel-Cabardès is a municipality in the south of France with 238 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aude department in the Occitanie region .

location

Villarzel-Cabardès is located on the Clamoux River in the old cultural landscape of Cabardès in the southern foothills of the Montagne Noire at an altitude of about 120 meters above sea level. d. M. and about 15 kilometers (driving distance) northeast of Carcassonne . The distance to the western canton capital Conques-sur-Orbiel is about six kilometers.

In the 19th century the place always had between 120 and 180 inhabitants. Despite the phylloxera crisis and the mechanization of agriculture and the associated loss of jobs, the number of inhabitants has hardly declined in the 20th century. In the last few decades it has even increased slightly, which is primarily due to the significantly lower land prices and rents compared to the nearby city of Carcassonne.
