Alairac is a French commune with 1,330 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aude department in the Occitanie region ( Languedoc-Roussillon until 2015 ); it belongs to the Arrondissement of Carcassonne and the municipality of Carcassonne Agglo .

geography

The municipality of Alairac is located ten kilometers southwest of Carcassonne on the northeastern foothills of the Malepère massif. The Autoroute A61 ( Toulouse - Narbonne ) touches the north of the municipality.

Neighboring municipalities of Alairac are Caux-et-Sauzens in the north, Lavalette in the east, Roullens in the southeast, Montclar in the south, Villarzel-du-Razès and Montréal in the southwest and Arzens in the west.

economy

The municipality is characterized by viticulture. It is part of the Malepère appellation . 36 farms are located in the community (including 19 winegrowers, cultivation of grain, oilseeds, vegetables and fruit).

The D 18 road leads from Carcassonne to Val de Lambronne through the municipality of Alairac . On the northern edge of the municipality, the A 61 autoroute runs from Toulouse to Narbonne . Carcassonne station, 15 kilometers from Alairac, is on the Bordeaux – Sète railway line .
