The Kornmühle Tüschenbroich is a water mill with an overshot wooden water wheel in North Rhine-Westphalia .

geography

The grain mill is located on the lower pond of Tüschenbroich Castle, on the side of the restaurant building in the Tüschenbroich district in the middle town of Wegberg in the Heinsberg district . The water level of the mill pond is 77 m above sea level. The mill building is not far from the castle on Landesstrasse 364.

The mill receives its water from a large, offshore pond through which the Schwalm flows.

history

The Tüschenbroich grain mill, like the Tüschenbroich oil mill, has always been part of Tüschenbroich Castle, which was first mentioned in 1172. The history of the mill goes back to the 14th and 15th centuries. Century back when it was built by the gentlemen of Tüschenbroich. The mill served as a source of income for its operators and so this mill was also operated as a forced or ban mill. That means, due to the ban law, the residents of a precisely defined area had to have this mill milled. The mill was owned by Baron von Spiering in 1624. In 1834, Gormann's Counselor from Erkelenz bought the mill. It was the only mill on the Schwalm to have an overshot mill wheel that could drive two grinding cycles (but not both at the same time) for up to six hours. Since 1863, in addition to the mill, there was also a pub , which was supposed to improve life as a second pillar. Immediately you could do a boat trip on the mill pond (castle pond). In the French era (beginning of the 19th century), the mill was seen as a relic of serfdom and was finally abolished. In 1940 the milling operation was stopped.
