The Bommers Mühle was a water mill with an undershot water wheel on the Wurm in the city of Heinsberg in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Heinsberg in the administrative district of Cologne .
geography
The Bommers mill had its location on the left side of the worm at the Bush Street, in the district Randerath in the town of Heinsberg. The plot of land on which the mill building stood is approx. 53 m above sea level . The mill was in the immediate vicinity of the Randerather oil mill . Above stood the Müllendorfer mill , below the Porselener mill since 1799 .
Waters
The worm supplied numerous mills with water over a river length of 53 km. The source of the worm is south of Aachen at 265 m above sea level. The confluence with the Rur is in the town of Kempen in the town of Heinsberg at 32 m above sea level. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, worm straightening was carried out. The curving, now and then meandering course of the river disappeared in favor of a simple route . The river length shortened and the flow speed increased. For many people the flood protection improved , for the mills it was the end. The water association Eifel-Rur (WVER) is responsible for the care and maintenance of the water body with a catchment area of 355.518 km 2 .
history
In 1608, the lordly mill in Kleinsiersdorf was destroyed by a lightning strike . That was the reason to build a new mill as a fruit mill opposite the Randerath oil mill in 1609 . Both mills were dependent on the same weir and were dependent on each other. Nevertheless, the mills were leased separately and had to share the compulsory meal of the city and the Kirspel Randerath . Later the mill also had an additional oil press . The mill building was the year 1754. In the 19th century the production of fertilizer Nordic feldspar ground in the mineral mill. The mill was destroyed in the Second World War . Today there is a parking lot at the former location .
