The Neumühle was a water mill with an undershot water wheel in North Rhine-Westphalia.
geography
The Neumühle was located at Landesstrasse 367, Schwaamer Strasse between Rickelrath and Schwaam . The mill had no pond . The location of the mill was 64 m above sea level. At the Neumühle the upper reaches of the Schwalm ends and the middle reaches begin.
The Neumühle was on the right side of the Schwalm , which has its source in Genhof , a district of the town of Erkelenz .
history
The Neumühle was named "Neue Mühle" on the Tranchot map. It was first mentioned in a document in 1397, when the Neumühle was mentioned in a tax bill from "Rabold von Brembt, Dorst and Rentmeister von Montfort and Erkelenz". In 1506 the Neumühle is described in the books of the church archive as "Stysmoelen" and "Niuus-Moelen". The miller was called Newmüller .
The Neumühle was the first mill on the Schwalm that did not need a pond because of the abundant flowing water. In 1826 the mill had an undershot water wheel with which two grinding stages and two oil presses can be operated. A grinding stage was in operation for 16 hours a day and a press for six hours. Around 500 tons of grain were milled annually during this time. In 1875 a hurricane-like storm raged, which even threw the waterwheel off its hinges.
The mill operation was stopped in 1926 in the course of the swallow straightening. In 1931 a license was granted to serve non-alcoholic drinks. The Wegberg community finally bought the building in 1950. The grinders were removed because they were in disrepair. Some rooms were rented out as apartments. At the beginning of the 1970s, the mill stood empty, fell into disrepair and was finally demolished in 1975. Today there is a sewage treatment plant on the site of the Neumühle .
