The Roßmühle was a water mill .

geography

The Roßmühle was located on the Brunbecker Graben in the Broich district in the middle town of Wegberg in the Heinsberg district . An upstream mill pond served as a water reservoir for the mill operation. The height of the terrain is 75 m above sea level. NN.

Waters

The Brunbecker Graben - formerly called Brunbeek - is today a drainage ditch of approx. 1000 m length for the places Brunbeck and Broich, which flows into the Schwalm at the entrance to Watern . At the confluence of the road in Broich / Mühltalweg there is still a pond today. The care and maintenance of the water is the responsibility of the Schwalm Association , which is based in Brüggen .

history

The old Geldrian fief "Roßweide" with 60 acres of land was in Watern . In 1402 Joris von Eggenraide received the fief of Duke Karl von Geldern . In 1548 the fief was received by Johann von Nesselrode, who had married the lady of the castle von Wegberg. In the pension books of the Wegberg parish church from 1711 it says: Peter Arets, the Aquaris Müller. Furthermore, another time: Veit of Aquaris Müller and Peter the Aquaris Müller (ie the water Müller as opposed to Windmüller ) has the pastor to deliver to Wegberg: a Malter rye , futures Remigii Day (October 1).

After that, a water mill appears to have been operated in what is now the Broich district. In earlier years there was still a “traffic jam” near the Hemshorn house; the brook has got lost, the brook bed can still be partially recognized. At today's beaver farm, the water of the "Brunbeek" was dammed and formed a small pond. The name "Roßweiher, Roßweide" probably stems from the fact that the horses from Tüschenbroich Castle had their watering or washing machine there .
