The Kringsmühle was a water mill with an undershot water wheel in North Rhine-Westphalia.

geography

The Kringsmühle was located in the street Zur Kringsmühle in the former district of Dorp in the middle town of Wegberg in the Heinsberg district . The mill building with residential house was a free-standing two-story half - timbered house . The former location of the mill is now 60 m above sea level.

The Kringsmühle got its water from an upstream mill pond, which was fed by the Schwalm .

history

According to the latest research, the Harbeck mill is mentioned much earlier than previously assumed. In 1677 Konrad Cryns complained that residents had dammed the water. The oil mill is on his legacy and was run by his father Michael before 1643. The mill belonged to the Kringshof (Crinshof) and had to deliver four Sümmer kitchen flour to Tüschenbroich Castle every year . The Kringsmühle was probably the most uneconomical mill on the Schwalm because of the low water volume. It started out as an oil mill and later as a grain mill and could only work three hours a day. The respective tenants and owners therefore also operated agriculture in order to be able to support their own families.

The owner from 1826 to 1865 was Theodor Knippertz and then son Heinrich. It was leased to Stefan Oellers, Johann Arnold Schmitz and Karl Jansen. In 1865 the mill was rebuilt. The large water wheel was replaced by a smaller one. Around 1900 Hubert Königs took over the mill from Heinrich Knippertz and sold the oil basins to the Lohmüller in Bissen . After his death, the mill was stopped. In 1975 the Kringsmühle was demolished.
