The Molzmühle is an earlier watermill with undershot water wheel in the Wegberger district of Rickelrath .

geography

The Molzmühle, which has the address In Bollenberg 44 , is on the eastern side of the Mühlenbach. In front of the mill is a mill pond whose water level is 61  m above sea level. NN and which is fed by the Mühlenbach. Above the Molzmühle are the Schrofmühle , the Buschmühle , the Holtmühle and the Vollmühle on the Mühlenbach .

Waters

The Mühlenbach, which rises in Herrath and flows into the Schwalm immediately behind the Molzmühle , is 13,475 meters long. The beginning of the stream is 77  m above sea level. NN , the mouth at 61  m above sea level. NN . Between Kipshoven and Holtmühle, the Mühlenbach forms the city boundary between the Heinsberg district and the city of Mönchengladbach . When you reach the Molzmühle, the Mühlenbach ends at this point and passes its water on to the Schwalm. The care and maintenance of the water is up to the Schwalm Association .

From 2012 the Schwalm Association built a fish pass at the Molzmühle. This created a natural connection between the Mühlenbach and the Schwalm, in order to provide fish and other aquatic organisms with a barrier-free path through Schwalm and Mühlenbach. The Schwalm and its tributaries should once again become a habitat for original fish species such as eel, barbel , chub , gudgeon and perch.

history

Today the Molzmühle is located on the Mühlenbach, the mouth of which was changed in 1966. Because of the increasing risk of flooding for Wegberg, the Schwalm was regulated from the sewage treatment plant to the Molzmühle and moved 40 m at the Molzmühle. Since then, the Mühlenbach has been the only water inlet to the Molzmühle. The owner was compensated for the loss of the Schwalm water and the storage rights.

The mill got its name from one of its owners. Arnold Molz is listed as the owner in a lease from 1627 . At the beginning of the 19th century the mill was driven by an undershot water wheel. Since the Schwalm in connection with the Mühlenbach had plenty of water, two grinding aisles and an oil press could be operated. In 1853 Wilhelm Josef Brinkmann was tenant of the Molzmühle for almost 40 years. Under his direction, the mill was operated for up to 16 hours a day. From the time of 1913 it is said that a second source of income was used by catching and selling eels . The eels were caught in boxes that were placed in front of the mill wheel. The entire annual rent of 1400 marks could be paid from the proceeds. In 1926 a widow Gripekoven was given permission to run a pub. The grinding operation was stopped in 1930 and the mill has been run as an inn since then. On August 3, 2014, the operator of the restaurant in the Molzmühle, Brigitte Hoyer, celebrated the 30th anniversary of the company.

New mill wheel

The Molzmühlrad association was able to put a new mill wheel with a diameter of 4.82 m into operation in April 2013. It was built by the mill builder Gerd Möller from Osnabrück together with his son Maximilian Kreye.
