Marquein is a French commune with 82 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aude department in the Occitanie region (before 2016 Languedoc-Roussillon ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Carcassonne , to the canton of La Piège au Razès (until 2015 Salles-sur-l'Hers ) and to the municipality of Castelnaudary Lauragais Audois . The inhabitants are called Marqueinois .

geography

Marquein is located about 20 kilometers west of Castelnaudary in the Lauragais countryside on the border with the neighboring Haute-Garonne department . The neighboring municipalities of Marquein are Caignac in the north and northwest, Saint-Michel-de-Lanès in the northeast, Salles-sur-l'Hers in the east, Fajac-la-Relenque in the south and Gibel (Haute-Garonne) in the west.
