Fridolin Brunner (* 1498 in Glarus , † 28 June 1570 in Glarus) was a Swiss Protestant pastor and reformer in glarnischen Mollis , Glarus, Matt and Betschwanden and Flums and Mels in the county of Sargans in the Common Lordships that to Canton St Gallen belong.

Life

Brunner grew up in Glarus. Presumably he was also a student of Huldrych Zwingli , who was still a Catholic priest in Glarus from 1506 to 1516. From 1517 he studied in Basel . From 1521 to 1525 he was pastor in Mollis, which also included Näfels and Oberurnen . He had become a loyal follower of Zwingli, his Reformation work began in 1523. He rejected Holy Mass , in contrast to Valentin Tschudi , his Reformed parish colleague in Glarus. In a letter to Oswald Myconius , he described himself as the first Protestant pastor in the state of Glarus. From 1525 to 1527 he received measuring plots in Glarus and was chaplain there. From 1527 to 1530 he was a Protestant pastor in Matt, where in 1528 the images of saints were removed from the church under his influence. In the same year he was a participant in the Bern disputation .

At the request of Zurich, which had a great influence in Glarus, he went to Flums in the county of Sargans in the common lordships as a Reformation preacher in 1530. In 1531 he moved on to Mels, where he was expelled in 1532 as part of the first counter-Reformation efforts of the Inner Places under the Glarner Aegidius Tschudi .

From 1532 to 1555 he was a Protestant pastor in Betschwanden. In 1533 he arranged for this parish to be the first parish in Glarus to have its own parish and church administration. In 1538 and again from 1543 he also preached in the neighboring town of Linthal . In 1542 Brunner created a church register . From 1555 to 1570 he was pastor again in Glarus, succeeding Valentin Tschudi. 1561 he published against the Catholics Aegidius Tschudi Scripture Antwurt uff Mr. Landammann Tschudi fürgebrachten reason ... .
