history

Friedersdorf

The village is first mentioned in documents in 1414 as Fredersdorf . From the year 1739 an uprising of the villagers against the Counts of Solms is known, during which they resisted the increase of the compulsory labor. There was also a glassworks in Friedersdorf in the 18th century. Half of the village fell victim to a devastating fire in 1872.

On May 1st, 2002 Friedersdorf, Bahren, Brenitz, Goßmar, Großkrausnik, Kleinkrausnik, Pahlsdorf, Sonnewalde and Zeckerin merged to form the town of Sonnewalde.

Culture and sights

The 15th century Friedersdorf church was once a Schönewald daughter church. In the course of its history it has undergone several renovations, during which it received a brick gable in the east in the 16th century and the half-timbered vestibule in the 18th century. The once massive tower in the west of the church was demolished and replaced by the octagonal wooden roof tower that exists today. It is currently the only building in the area that is on the Brandenburg State Monument List.

Another place of interest is the stone cross, which is now located on the corner of the old school garden. Originally, its location is said to have been at the old municipal sand pit of Brenitz. Furthermore, a war memorial can be found in the village in the form of a stele , which commemorates the fallen villagers of the First and Second World Wars and the Franco-German War (1870/71).

To the north-east of the village, the 959 hectare nature reserve Sonnewalde and Lugkteich , which was placed under protection in 1968, extends.

Local associations include the Friedersdorfer Kulturverein founded in 1994 and the local volunteer fire brigade founded in 1912.

The largest event in the district is the Friedersdorf Brass Music Festival, which takes place every year in May.
