history

Großkrausnik was first mentioned as Crussenick in 1439. Other traditional forms of place names are Crusnigk in the copies of the Meißner diocese articles from 1495 and Groß Kraussnig in 1753. The place name means settlement in the pear orchard and is derived from the Sorbian word kšušwa = "pear". The place was subordinate to the registrar of Sonnewalde and thus belonged to the Electorate of Saxony until 1806 . After the Congress of Vienna , the Kingdom of Saxony had to cede the area to the Kingdom of Prussia .

From 1816 Großkrausnik belonged to the Luckau district in the Prussian province of Brandenburg . On October 30, 1937, the name of the place was changed by the National Socialists in order to delete the ending, which indicates a Sorbian origin of the name. The renaming was not reversed later. Since the GDR district reform in July 1952, Großkrausnik belonged to the Finsterwalde district in the Cottbus district . After reunification , the community was only in the Finsterwalde district , which was opened up in 1993 in the Elbe-Elster district. On May 1, 2002, Großkrausnik was incorporated into Sonnewalde.
