Benedictus Gotthelf Teubner (born June 16, 1784 in Großkrausnigk near Luckau , † January 21, 1856 in Leipzig ) was a German bookseller and founder of the publishing house .

Life

Teubner was a book printer , acquired the Weinedelsche Buchdruckerei zu Leipzig in 1811 , which he had been managing since 1806, and which he expanded through energy and skill into one of the most important in Germany. Honors

Friedrich Wilhelm IV. Awarded Teubner the gold medal of homage for the work History of Book Printing , published in 1840, “as an acknowledgment of the typographical value of this typeface”, and the English royal couple, to whom a copy had been presented, awarded him the gold coronation medal. King Friedrich August of Saxony had accepted the dedication.

Teubnerstraße in Leipzig is named after Teubner.
