Friedrich August Valentin Freiherr Voit von Salzburg (born June 26, 1734 ; † May 14, 1798 in Wald near Gunzenhausen ) was a Prussian major general and ansbach colonel and participant in the American War of Independence .

Life

origin

His parents were Julius Gottlob Voit von Salzburg and his wife Eleonore Charlotte, Freiin von Seckendorff . His father was the master of Salzburg, Eichenhausen and Burglauer. In addition, Privy Councilor , Landscape Director and Knight of the Red Eagle Order and the Order of St. John .

Military career

Voit must have come to court at a young age, because from 1748 on he accompanied the Hereditary Prince Karl Alexander as a page to the universities of Leiden and Utrecht . In 1750 he entered the service of Ansbach-Bayreuth and on June 1, 1763 he became a second lieutenant in the "Treskow" cavalry regiment. In the Seven Years War he fought in the Reichsheer a. a. at the siege of Wittenberg. In the regiment Voit rose to captain on May 22, 1772 and in 1773 to Oberstwachtmeister and chamberlain . Troops from Ansbach were given in English pay and sent to the American War of Independence.

Voit also embarked on March 29, 1777 in the port of Dordrecht and reached the port of New York on June 4, 1777 with the troops . There he was appointed colonel on April 13, 1778 , and was appointed commander of the "Ansbach" regiment. During the surrender of Yorktown on October 19, 1781, he was captured. In 1785 he returned to Ansbach and became chief of a district regiment. With the transition from Ansbach to Prussia, he was taken over as major general in Prussian services on July 16, 1792 while maintaining his salary and regiment. He died on May 14, 1798 in Wald near Gunzenhausen.
