Monika Barz

Monika Barz (born April 5, 1953 in Castrop-Rauxel ) is active in the women's and lesbian movement and was professor for women and gender issues at the Protestant University in Ludwigsburg from 1993 to 2016 .

Life

Monika Barz first studied mathematics and sport and worked as a primary and secondary school teacher. In addition, she studied pedagogy at the University of Tübingen . She did her doctorate at the University of Hanover on the identification possibilities of lesbian women in the churches.

Monika Barz is active in the autonomous women's movement. She is co-founder of the Autonomous Women's Refuge Tübingen and the emergency number for raped women in Nienburg / Weser. In 1985, together with Herta Leistner and Ute Wild , she initiated the first lesbian conferences at the Evangelical Academy in Bad Boll , for which she was jointly responsible every year until 1997.

In 1987 Monika Barz, Herta Leistner and Ute Wild wrote the book “Would you have thought that we were so many. Lesbian Women in Church ”. The book and the conferences acted like an initial spark in the entire German-speaking area: The conferences became a protected space in which lesbian women in the churches could develop networks and political forms of solidarity for the first time. Networks like the LUK (lesbian and church), the MuM (Maria and Martha network) found their origin in Bad Boll and gave rise to the networks Labrystheia and NKL (network of catholic lesbians). From 1993 to 2016 Monika Barz taught as a professor in the field of “Theory and Practice of Social Work with Girls and Women” at the Evangelical University in Ludwigsburg. The subject of research was questions of women and gender studies.

politics

From 1985 to 1993 Monika Barz was city ​​councilor in Nienburg / Weser for the voter initiative for democracy and environmental protection (WIDU), in 2013 she was on the state list of the GREEN for the federal election .

Monika Barz was a member of the board of the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband Baden-Württemberg from 1995 to 2013 and of its supervisory board from 2014 to 2015 .

In 2012 Monika Barz was co-founder of the network LSBTTIQ Baden-Württemberg , the amalgamation of various organizations and initiatives from the LGBTTIQ area.

She is co-founder of the nationwide umbrella campaign RotlichtAus , which was initiated in 2016 by the State Women's Council of Baden-Württemberg together with the Sisters association - for getting out of prostitution eV . Since 2018 she has been a member of the board of the Baden-Württemberg Women's Council for the Association of Baden-Württemberg Women Scientists .
