Friedrich Berndt (architect)
Friedrich Berndt (born May 26, 1903 in Bessingen , Holzminden district , † April 4, 1983 in Braunschweig ) was a German architect who planned and built numerous church buildings in the Braunschweig Evangelical Lutheran Church after the Second World War .
Life
Berndt first attended a grammar school and studied architecture from 1922 to 1927 at the Technical University of Braunschweig . He then found a job in an architecture office in Chemnitz . He received his doctorate in 1931 at the Technical University of Braunschweig, where he 1929-1934 research assistant at the Institute for Building Construction worked. From 1934 to 1945 he was responsible for the planning and implementation of a number of airfield projects in the service of the Air Force's construction administration .
After the Second World War, Berndt worked as a church building councilor for the Braunschweig Evangelical Lutheran regional church from 1948 . As the founder and head of the Braunschweig City Church Building Office until 1971, he played a key role in the reconstruction of the Braunschweig city churches and the construction of numerous new churches in the Braunschweig regional church. In 1952 he was appointed to the Oberlandeskirchenrat. In addition to these activities, he also taught at the Technical University from 1946 to 1966, and in 1953 he was appointed honorary professor. He has published several scientific articles and papers.
Awards
- On August 21, 1964, Berndt was awarded the Peter Josef Krahe Prize of the city of Braunschweig.
