Friedrich Christian Karl von Holwede (born April 19, 1725 in Lochtum , † February 1, 1797 in Bromberg ) was a Prussian major general and chief of the "von Brühl" infantry regiment .

Life

origin

His parents were the Prussian captain Heinrich Christian von Holwede (1684–1739) and his wife Sophie Hedwig, born von König (1694–1770) from the Lochtum house. Major General Ferdinand Friedrich Albrecht Gottlieb von Holwede was his brother.

Military career

In 1740, Holwede was initially a page with the Prussian King Friedrich II. On January 6, 1747, he joined the infantry regiment “Jung-Braunschweig” as an ensign and was promoted to secondary lieutenant until the beginning of September 1748 . In the Seven Years' War he took part in the battles of Kolin , Leuthen and Hochkirch . By the end of November 1762 Holwede rose to captain and company commander .

After the war, on September 9, 1769, he was ordered to take part in the maneuvers near Potsdam . On October 1, 1774 he became a major and took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On May 24, 1784 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . On February 10, 1786 he received the prebend of Cammin in place of the late Major Marschall von Bieberstein. Shortly afterwards on March 11, 1787, Holwede was promoted to colonel and on April 1, 1792 appointed chief of the infantry regiment "von Brühl" . In this position he was promoted to major general on May 22, 1792 with a patent from May 22, 1792. Holwede and his association took part in the suppression of the Kościuszko uprising in 1794/95 . On November 4, 1796, due to illness, he received his resignation with a pension of 1000 thalers a year. He died in Bromberg on February 1, 1797.

During the war of 1794, the regiment under Holwede was so distinguished that King Friedrich Wilhelm III. gave the regiment its own grenadier march.
