Friedrich Karl Hermann (since 1841: von) Kruse (* July 21, 1790 in Oldenburg ; † August 3, 1866 in Gohlis , today in Leipzig ) was a German historian and prehistoric .

Life

Kruse was a son of the historian and educator Christian Kruse , attended the Thomas School from 1803 to 1805 and studied at the University of Leipzig from 1810 , where he received his doctorate in 1813. In 1815 he first became a teacher at the Knights' Academy in Liegnitz , and the following year he moved to the Maria Magdalenen Gymnasium in Breslau , until in 1821 he became professor of ancient and middle history and geography in Halle . In 1828 he followed a call to Dorpat in Estonia as a professor of historical sciences, from where he retired to Germany in 1853.

Awards

Works

His research on the geography of old Germany is commendable : Budorgis, or old Silesia before the introduction of the Christian religion (Dresden. 1819) and German antiquities (Halle 1824–29, 3 volumes).

He established his literary reputation primarily through his Hellas, or geographical-antiquarian representation of ancient Greece (Leipzig 1825-27, 3 volumes). He also wrote:
