Fritz Lach
Fritz Lach (born May 29, 1868 in Linz , † October 9, 1933 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist .
life and work
He was the nephew of the flower and still life painter Andreas Lach and the great-nephew of Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller . After commercial and secondary school in Linz, he attended a cadet school in Vienna from 1882 to 1885 . He then studied at the Vienna Academy and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , among others with Eduard Peithner von Lichtenfels and his uncle Josef Hoffmann . Up to the age of 32 he worked as an official of the DDSG in various Danube cities - from 1890 he was port clerk in Orșova, then civil servant in Semlin (today Belgrade ) and in Regensburg . From 1900 Friedrich Lach settled in Vienna as a painter and graphic artist. From 1909 he devoted himself exclusively to artistic creation. He was a member of the Austrian Association of Artists and the Dürerbund . He was chairman of this from 1916. His landscape watercolors were particularly appreciated . He was considered the most important watercolor artist since Rudolf von Alt . Lach died of a stroke in 1933 . He was buried in an honorary grave in the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 12 E, Row 1, No. 8).
His hometown Linz (1934) honored the artist with the Fritz-Lach-Weg on the Freinberg .
